Yerba Buena Gardens

Yerba Buena Gardens

Yerba Buena Gardens is a quiet garden area located in Mission Street, between 3rd and 4th Street in the SoMa district (South of Market area).

The most important part of Yerba Buena is its gardens, called Esplanade, an area where visitors and locals come to relax and unwind. Depending on the time of year, various events and concerts are celebrated in Yerba Buena.

What to See in Yerba Buena

There are a number of good places to visit in the gardens themselves as well as in the neighbouring streets:

  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial: Next to the Esplanade Gardens you will see a large waterfall. Behind it is the monument to the memory of Martin Luther King, Jr.
  • Charles Looff Historic Carousel: Hand-built in 1906, it is preserved in perfect condition. It is an attraction that will delight the garden's youngest visitors (and some of the older ones as well).
  • Museums: The most important ones are the SFMOMA (the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art) and the Contemporary Jewish Museum.
  • Buildings: Some of the most representative buildings in the area are the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts and the Moscone Convention Center.

A Must-See

Yerba Buena is an area with plenty of possibilities, in fact, if you have enough time and are looking for some entertainment, you can also find a skating rink, a bowling alley and the Zeum Museum- a children's favourite.
