Alamo Square + The Painted Ladies Tour

Explore one of San Francisco's most famous squares on this tour. Learn all about the history of this city and its inhabitants over the years.

Tour Highlights

At the time indicated, we'll meet in Alamo Square Park at the top of the steps at the intersection of Hayes Street and Pierce Street. Are you ready to explore one of San Francisco's best-known parks?

Firstly, we'll see the Painted Ladies, also known as Postcard Row. From this spot, we'll also have stunning views of San Francisco's skyline. Don't forget your camera!

The guide will tell us all about the history of Alamo Hill, such as the role it played during the 1906 fires, its status as a watering hole, and the implications of the Van Ness Ordinance. They'll also tell us about what makes the City Hall so special, and you'll get a sense of the variety of housing styles in the neighbourhood.

Then, we'll explore the William Westerfeld House. Did you know that its previous residents range from Russian czars to German sweet makers? In addition, we'll see the Archbishop's Mansion, where Pope Pius XII used to stay when he visited San Francisco.

You'll also get the chance to take a step inside the Historic Chateau Tivoli, one of the several grand Victorian homes that surround Alamo Square.

Our tour will end in the historic Fillmore District after visiting Third Baptist Church, San Francisco's first Black church. We'll say our goodbyes here after 1.5 hours.
